Responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the business operations of the District, including but not limited to accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, vendor payments, cash receipting and program registration.

Independent Contractor Opportunities

UMPIRES: COED SOFTBALL

Pay: $35 per game (typically 2 short games each evening). All umpire fees are paid at the end of the season.
SWPRD is seeking umpires for our Adult Coed Softball League. ~100 players turn out each summer for this fun, community-oriented league. Umpires needn’t commit to all dates, but will indicate their availability on application. Umpires will be contractors, not employees of SWPRD. Please contact 360-221-6788 for questions.

Recreation Program Leaders

Pay: Typically a revenue split of 80% to program leader/20% to SWPRD

We’re looking for instructors and program leaders who can offer fun and enriching programs to our community! Do you have experience teaching art, fitness, movement, dance, or sports? Do you have a great idea, hobby or something new to add to our list of programs? If you have something you’d like to add to the schedule, call Skye Dunn at 360-221-6788 for more information, and Download a Program Proposal Packet here and the Contractor Handbook here. Contract instructors are not employees of SWPRD, they are independent contractors.

Apply by the following deadlines:

  • Winter Program Proposals due: November 1 (For programs in January – April)
  • Summer Program Proposals due: March 14 (For programs in May – August)
  • Fall Program Proposals due: July 15 (For programs in September – December)

When are you hiring for the pool?!

The South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District will be hiring a number of full time and part time positions, including an Aquatics Manager, Coordinator, HR, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Administrative & Front Desk staff. Some employment may be added on an Independent Contractor basis, such as janitorial, fitness, swim coaching, and fitness programs.

Hiring will begin incrementally, beginning as early as August 2026, and through the spring of 2027 as we ramp up operations. Employment opportunities will be posted here on our Employment page.
