Volunteers

Have you ever thought about volunteering but weren’t sure about what to do or how to get started? If so, South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District has a number of opportunities for you to volunteer to enrich your community. The success of many of our programs and events depends directly on the efforts of our volunteers! And there’s a bonus: volunteering can be fun! The program also provides an excellent opportunity for high school students to earn service learning hours, and for college students to obtain valuable work experience. Below you will find a sampling of upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Special Events

Volunteer Coordinator for Triathlon
Are you great at instigating fun? Are you well-connected in this community with energy for motivating others to contribute to their community? The Whidbey Island Triathlon needs an enthusiastic and organized volunteer to coordinate the 100+ volunteers that make our triathlon on the first Saturday in August such a beloved event. Attend monthly committee meetings, recruit, organize and appreciate volunteers. This is an unpaid, volunteer position with great intangible rewards as you see the racers cross the finish line. Interested persons should contact Carrie Monforte at 221-6788 or .

Programs

Volunteer Coaches for our Athletic Programs
We need volunteer coaches to provide positive guidance for youth in our basketball league. We strive to provide a fun environment which realizes and challenges each participant’s playing potential while maintaining the integrity of disciplined and fair “Team Play”. Coaches receive free registration for their child. Coaches must attend the Skills Evaluation for their appropriate age group. Coaches should be available for the coach/referee meeting also. Contact Carrie Monforte at 221-6788 or .

Sponsors

You can make a huge impact in your community by contributing money or goods for many of our programs including the Youth Scholarship Fund, the Chum Run 5K Walk & Run, the Whidbey Island Triathlon or the Daddy & Daughter Ball. Gifts large and small are all appreciated (and tax deductible) and make our programs possible.
