The Wonders Of Nature – CANCELLED – Join the Virtual Summer Art Camp:  Printmaking instead.

A fun, engaging and creative summer art camp offering children the opportunity to explore ideas inspired by the natural world of plants and animals. Children will be able to experiment with diverse art materials and artistic techniques including glass mosaic, solar prints, paint, pencil, sumi ink and bamboo pens, charcoal, and collage. Several projects will investigate the world of light, making dream catchers and shadow puppets. There will be a glass mosaic tile project inspired by nature imagery such as butterflies, eagles, orca whales and song birds.

*Plus additional materials fee of $20 paid directly to instructor on first day of camp.

The Wonderful World of Arts and Crafts – CANCELLED – Join our online art workshops for kids!

A fun, engaging and creative summer art camp offering children the opportunity to explore a variety of materials such as sumi ink, acrylic paint, pencil, stain glass with artistic techniques inspired by the arts and crafts of diverse cultures. Projects will include glass mosaic tiles, nature mandalas, circle weaving, hand-made and solar prints, silly monsters sewing project, paper cutting, pulping and collage project, pom pom animals, painted nature wands and magic lanterns.

Art Camp: Printmaking (Live Virtual Program)

For ages 8-12 years

A creative, playful and nurturing online summer art camp where children will explore the wonders of the natural world and the expression of the colors and forms found in nature using diverse printmaking techniques. Kids will learn about artistic process, how to create prints using relief inks and unusual printing plates, the magic of color mixing and layering to express their own imaginations and voices about the natural environment.

Come prepared to experiment and have fun.

This camp will be organized as ZOOM online conferences which are super easy to join. Links will be sent to parents the day before the workshop and parents are welcome to join in the creative fun as well. Kids will be able to continue working on their artworks after the online workshops are concluded if they feel inspired.

Parents will collect GRAB AND GO Art Kits (which will include many fun art materials for the children to use in these classes) by appointment after registering for the workshop.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED Requirements for workshops:

  • Solid internet access (WIFI or lots of data). See Zoom system requirements.
  • Ability to link to ZOOM via computer/phone/tablet and engage with video and audio. Links to be provided.
  • Ability to pick up Grab & Go Art Kit from a South Whidbey location, to be arranged.
  • In addition to the included “Grab & Go Art Kit” you’ll need to provide for your child: Tape, scissors, paper towel or rag, glue or hot glue gun, a ruler or something with a straight edge, a pencil, string and a small container with water for painting. Please indicate if you have any art paint brushes, watercolor paints or colored felt pens at home already. All other art materials will be provided in the Grab-And-Go art kits.
  • Flat work surface, at least 17″ X 24″ preferably where messes can be made. Best covered with the 17″ X 24″ brown paper provided in the art kits, to protect the surface.
  • Clothing that can get messy.
  • Water & snack on hand
  • Behavior: If participant is unable or unwilling to engage in the workshop in a productive way (being disruptive, being unsafe or not following direction), they may be temporarily “muted” or permanently dropped from the course with no refund.

Online Art Workshops for Kids

 

For ages 8-12 years

Engaging art workshops at home. Nature can be a wonderful source of inspiration that teaches us about form, line, color, relationship, movement, rhythm and story. In this series of 3-day workshops, children will have the opportunity to explore the arts, culture and folk lore of different cultures and their relationship to the natural world around them. Choose one session, or join them all.

These workshops will be organized as ZOOM online conferences which are super easy to join. Fold-Out, Pop-Up, Hand-Crafted Mini Art Cards

Create hand-made and solar printed cards! Hand craft and construct art cards that fold out, pop up, accordion using diverse materials and techniques. This workshop will include basic printmaking, solar prints using the sun, collage, mixed media, sewing and paper crafting techniques.

  • Monday: Learn the art of paper crafting to make fold out and pop up art cards.
  • Wednesday: Solar prints and basic printmaking.
  • Thursday: Put it all together

Art & Story Telling Workshop

Bookbinding, Illustration Drawing, and Creative Writing

Learn how to make your own books using different materials and book binding techniques and learn how to create and illustrate a story or poem. The workshop will include fun paper crafting, basic printmaking, drawing and collage.

  • Monday: Learn about basic bookmaking skills and how to create a story.
  • Wednesday: The art of illustration.
  • Thursday: Put it all together.

Playful Embroidery Art

Modern art, collage and punch needle embroidery

A visually colorful and playful workshop introducing modern art, design and the creation of embroidered artworks. Children will learn about composition, designing shapes, working with color and diverse embroidery techniques.

  • Monday: Learning the art of composition and observation drawing. Children will learn about color mixing, texturing and how to create gradations of color and arrangement of shapes to create their designs for the embroidered artwork. Introduction to basic techniques of ribbon embroidery.
  • Wednesday: Learn punch needle embroidery.
  • Thursday: Embroidery continued. Learn how to transform your art piece into a functional object.

Acrylic Pour Fluid Art

Paint your own abstracts!

ADULTS (Youth 10+ okay accompanied by an adult)

Learn to make unique abstract art using acrylic paints and pouring medium. This introductory class will cover the basics of how to mix the paint & medium, how and why to use silicone drops, and demonstrate several common techniques. Participants will create several pieces during the class and walk away with the skills to create their own masterpieces! Acrylic pours create dazzling patterns, can be used on a wide range of objects, and can be found for sale in galleries and craft fairs.  No artistic experience needed. Students leave artwork to dry for 1-2 days before moving them. Search ‘Acrylic Pouring’ on YouTube for examples of the process and results.

Mom/Dad & Me Art

SESSIONS FOR AGES 5-13
Accompanied by a significant adult

Are you intimidated by the thought of doing art with your child?  You don’t have to be a great artist to do art with your kids. Spend quality time connecting with your child, create memories, explore your own creativity, witness your child’s development & have fun during this new exciting class! This class is for a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent or other caring adult to do with a child.

Gelli Printing Fun! Gelli printing is a type of printmaking that is super fun and easy for kids and adults of all ages. No artistic experience required! Everyone can do this and have fun! We will use a gelli plate and acrylic paint to create layered printed papers experimenting with stencils, bubble wrap, cardboard and other found objects.  Everyone will take home all the papers they create plus ideas of what to do with them. One adult is required for every child. Class size is limited to 12. Advance registration is required.

Art Smarts

Books & Art Projects

Grades 2–4

Join us for artistic fun on Early Release Wednesdays! We’ll start each class by reading a playful book together, then dive into an exciting art project inspired by the book. Each class will bring a different book and project, so students can experience different techniques and art mediums. Students will be given enough structure to feel successful, but also be given lots of opportunities to be creative! There are no wrong answers in art!  Min 4/Max 20

Instructor can meet students at the SWES South Campus flagpole after school and escort them to the program. Parents/guardians must notify the school via Pick-Up Patrol and notify instructor of any schedule changes.
