Summer Games in the Park
HUMANS 16+; DOGS, 6+ MONTHS, BEGINNERS
Try a fresh approach to training and entertaining your dog: playing games in the park. How fast is your dog’s recall? Can you call it away from a caged ham? Interested in teaching your dog to negotiate an obstacle course? Want to improve its public manners? We’ve designed a variety of games to educate and entertain while embracing the best practices of positive reinforcement dog training: short sessions, high rate of reinforcement, measurable criteria, and record keeping.
Some of our games have serious goals, based on important life skills like reliable recalls and greeting strangers. Others are centered on dog sports skills for agility, barn hunt, and rally. Some are just plain silly. We’ll offer as many as we can fit into an evening; you chose the ones you want.
For most games, you and your dog will be alone in a fully fenced ring, then move onto the next. For some, like public walking and greeting behaviors, we’ll slowly create a crowd your dog can successfully negotiate. Most games will take no more than a minute, and we’ll measure or time your accomplishments, keeping records so you can track your progress.
You’re strongly encouraged to use anything and everything you need to succeed: praise, treats, toys, dinner bowls and applause. We want you and your dog to find that training’s just a walk in the park!
Bring to Class: Treats and toys, a non-restraining collar and a 6’ leash are required. A harness and portable crate are recommended.
Location: Outdoors in the small field immediately inside the north entrance of Community Park, and indoors at “The Doghouse” at Community Park.
