Intro to the Sport of Orienteering
ADULTS & YOUTH AGES 10+
We’re natural-born explorers; all we need is a lively intro to map reading techniques to open up adventures in our local parks. This is a great way to introduce orienteering, a sport which combines racing with navigation. Check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZOI9kKuA4I. Learn the fundamentals of map-based navigation and apply them right away in an outdoor orienteering course at Community Park. Students will learn:
• Elements of a good map
• Commonly mapped features
• Orientation & relocation
• Thumbing & contours
• The joy of knowing where you’re going!
