Chum Run 5K 2023

Walk or run with your chums!

Join us for the 25th annual Chum Run 5K, and walk or run to benefit  the Healthy Island Youth Scholarship Fund (HIYI).**

Enjoy fun & friendly competition while helping to raise funds for a good cause. Awards are given three deep in student and age group divisions. Medals given to first place three males/females overall, high school, and middle school divisions. Awards will be given by place finishing, divided by age division. Youth may run with their adults. Awards will be available at the Park District office for 2 weeks after the race, in case you’re not available to stick around for the awards ceremony.

Location & Parking: The 5K race starts and finishes at South Whidbey Community Park, utilizing the Park’s clean and clear the forest paths. The gates will be closed, please park at the High School next door.

Date/Time:  Saturday, September 16, 10 am race start

Note: Day of Race registration is on an space-available-only basis. We recommend registering in advance.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE

FUN FOR KIDS

Younger kids may participate in the Fry Run, a free, casual, short-distance foot race, divided by ages, with plastic medals. Parents should be present to supervise for distancing and/or run alongside. No advance registration required for this.

AWARDS

Awards will be given by place finishing, divided by age division. Youth may run with their adults. Awards will be available for pick-up at the Park District office for 2 weeks after the race, in case you don’t want to stick around for the awards ceremony. We will not mail them.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

Stay in finishing order after you cross the finish line, as you enter the finish chute. Tear off your own race tag, and hand it to the finish chute helpers.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you, or perhaps one of your supporters, has a bit of time to help, we need help with a few things on Saturday: finish line, trail marshals, set-up, clean up. You can sign up for a job online.

 LOCATION & PARKING

South Whidbey Community Park at 5495 Maxwelton Road, Langley WA 98260. Please park next door at the High School so that we can keep the gates closed and the course clear of vehicles for your safety.

**Net proceeds go to the HIYI Scholarship Fund. This program provides assistance to children and youth from low-income families, providing opportunities for area youth to participate in sports and other physical activities and recognizes the important physical, mental, and character building benefits such programs provide.

THE COURSE

You’ll be running on nice forested trails and some pavement. It’s a lovely course. It’s just shy of 5K. Chum Run Course (May be modified for 2023)

The Chum Run 5K will follow CDC COVID-19 safety requirements and any current Washington State guidelines for racing, which may change up to the day of race. More details about our specific procedures to follow.
